Not quite yesterday any more

In 1983, we saw the Return of the Jedi, Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd were Trading Places, Matthew Brodderick was playing War Games, while Tom Cruise was busy with some Risky Business. Everybody was watching J.R. down in Dallas, Hawkeye Pierece and BJ Honeycut were finally free of their M*A*S*H* unit, people were still cruising on The Love Boat, and when you were in trouble… and you could find them… you would call on, The A-Team.

We were living’ here in Allentown, driving our Little Red Corvette right down Electric Avenue. With Every Breath You Take, you would ask that Maneater, Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? But after realizing it was a Total Eclipse of the Heart, you would tell Billie Jean to Beat It.

On this date (June 1, 1983), a young, bright eyed dreamer was unleashed on the world. On this day, 25 years ago, I graduated from High School. I was so sure of so much back then. I “knew” I was going to do something great of course, I also knew that once my Miami Dolphins got Dan Marino in the draft that we simply had a lock on many Super Bowls in the future. When I think about it… I may have been wrong about Marino, and it may not have been what I was thinking at the time, but I can certainly claim at least one great thing.

Nope, graduating from High School no longer seems like “just yesterday.” Not any more.
