New lows in telemarketing
I thought I had seen (and heard it all) when it came to telemarketing. Every time I think they have sunk as low as they can possibly go, the prove me wrong, and reach a whole new level a sleeze.
HSBC Bank has come up with a new way to reach new lows that will be difficult (I won’t say “impossible” any longer) to beat. Tonight I answer the phone, and get what starts to sound like a typical sales call, and I am ready to quote the law and the fact that I have already asked to be placed on their do not call list, when I realize that the person on the other end of the phone isn’t exactly replying exactly to what I am saying, but something I can only deem as “close.”
At first I think, it is just some new guy that is sticking a little too close to the script and not listening. But then he replies to one comment with a completely different reply and a chuckle. And I think to myself, “Wait a minute.” So, I ask “Are you a real person?” The line gets static and after a pause, he says “Yes, this offer is real.”
Bingo!
There wasn’t even a telemarketer on the other end of the phone. Now I can’t even try and feel sorry for somebody that is just trying to earn a living and doing their job. Now it is nothing but a talking computer with a voice recognition algorithm trying to “understand” what I am saying.
Tomorrow I am closing all my accounts at HSBC. That is just plain wrong!
