Random Tuesday
Inspired by both the movie, and the fact that Mark, tried it first, meaning I wasn’t the only one with this crazy idea, I decided to make Ratatouille. It actually came out good, and although she wound up not liking it, LatteGirl was actually willing and looking forward to trying it. (If you only knew how thrilled this made me. It is tough to try and get her to try any new foods. Even mild, Sensory Integration Disorder makes her fear trying new things).
The other thing about Ratatouille is, in the movie they point out that this is a “peasants dish” (I presume because there is no meat product and very stew like in its qualities). Now, that vantage point is certainly not true in America today. Fresh healthy vegetables, grown locally on sustainable farms, is to put it politely, far more expensive than you would think. Certainly cheaper than eating out at a good restaurant, but more than a cruddy meal at McDonald’s (or Burger King, or whatever your fast food place of choice is). And that is just plain wrong. Why is it that junk food is just so much cheaper than vegetables? Well, I know why, because the products that make up junk food (sugar, corn, etc.) are subsidized, and fresh healthy vegetables are not. I know I am not the only one, but why don’t more people see this as just plain wrong.
Simple Fact - Whenever I say, “but I don’t get sunburn” I inevitably get some immediately after. Apparently a trip to Florida was not enough for me to get sunburn, but one day in the amusement park was.
Why? - Is it that fast food places can’t put people behind the registers that, you know, actually can understand English and take your order right the first time? Do I really need to take three attempts to order a coffee? “Small Bold Coffee, Milk, No Sugar” Should responded with, “Would you like anything else?” Not,
You want a coffee?
Yes, the BOLD coffee.
Oh, ok Bold Coffee… do you want cream?
No, small bold coffee, milk, no sugar.
oh wait, you want the small coffee?
Yes!
Do you want sugar in that?
Nooooo! SMALL, BOLD, MILK, NO SUGAR!
That’ll be 98 cents.
And of course, half of the time, I still wind up with either cream or sugar in the coffee.
There is no way they can be making money on this transaction with the amount of time it takes.

Got something to say?

You know what’s funny, my wife did the shopping so I have no idea how much all those ingredients cost! Maybe we should start growing vegetables in our vast acreage.
