Love Extended
On this date, 52 years ago, two people two people were married. (Well, I’m sure there were more than two, but I am speaking of two in particular). They were born 4 days apart and lived at opposite ends of the same block, but never met until High School. It was there that they initally met and fell in love.
They may have been married earlier, however he was drafted and served in the Korean War. In much the storybook fashion she waited for him to return, and upon his return, a date was set for the Wedding.
In August of 2004, he passed away. They had been married 49 years. Every year, on their anniversary, she visits his grave and wishes him a Happy Anniversary. So now, even 2-1/2 years after his passing, she continues to celebrate the day they were married. It is not as if she is clinging to the past as I see it so much as she continues to love him. Their love did not actually stop with “’til death do us part.” I may have parted them, but the love has endured.
In a day and age where divorce is all too common, and words like “sanctity of marriage” is thrown around far too freely, my parents have displayed for me, my sister, my daughter, and everybody in our families, what that sanctity truely is, and how it can endure anything. Even death.

Nice post. Reminds me of my parents – married 41 years – or my grandparents – married 62 years. “Sanctity” is right.
