This country needs… something

OK, I have to admit, since I am not a big fan of American Idol (to put it politely), I got a real kick out the VoteForTheWost.com pushing of Sanjaya.  I was most amused by the letters and e-mails that “Idol” fans were sending… filled with hate, and outrage.

It gave me pause when I ran across a couple of letters that tried so desperately to “put things in “perspective” and tell how Important Idol is, and how manipulating the events is wrong, because then the outcome is not correct (please note I have removed all the expletives that would have made those phrases considerably longer).  And I stopped laughing.  And I pondered it for a moment.  And I got really sad.

Our President led us into a war, under false pretenses.  He lied to the American people.  He continues to this moment to manipulate and cajole in an effort to get his way.  And people remain quiet.  (Not everybody of course but you know what I mean).  But mess with a faux talent show on Television, and people are outraged, and screaming bloody murder and talking about how “Un-American” it is.  Lead us into war so that our soldiers get killed on a lie?  OK.  Take away civil liberties?  Hey no sweat.  Abuse and overstep the autorities of the Presidency?  Why do I care?  Just don’t mess with American Idol.

We as a country really need to get our priorities straight.
