Gifts no parent would buy

Every parent hits this situation once in a while.  You have a relative or a friend, one that doesn’t have kids, that give your son or daughter a present, no parent would would ever buy for their kids.

In this case, my daughter received a little yellow chick, dressed up in a bunny outfit, that quacks out “Here comes Peter Cottontail.”  I have been listening to this for the past hour now, and have been alternating dreaming of ways to make the chick meet an untimely end, and dreaming of finding a way for the person that gave it to her… meeting an untimely end.

I guess it is something of a cycle.  Before we had a child, my wife and I gave some gifts that in retrospect probably garnered similar feeling of disdain.  So for those that are child free, remember this, as it will ultimately come back to haunt you later.  For those that have kids.  Remember, it (probably) wasn’t just something done to torture you.  I said, “Probably!”

that is exactly why you remember this “gift” when that person has kids. it’s called PAYBACK and you then
the most obnoxious present the kid will love, and mom will hate. LOL

    Welcome to HELL.

My siblings had kids before I did, and I think I was little guilty of the BAD gift-giving. PAYBACK is a BITCH for sure!

Actually, I’ll go ahead and say it – I’ve purposely given children of parents who have annoyed or slighted me in some way gifts that were noisy and/or obnoxious. It may come back and bite me in the ass if I ever have kids of my own, but knowing what I know about being the no-children adult in the group, I’d try to be more conscious of NOT offending the non-children people I know.

I’d give specifics about what things parents have done to me that have garnered a “noisy gift” for their child, but that would be writing an entire post in your comments.

Definitely payback from the pre-kid days.

Why don’t you show up as “updated” anymore on blogrolling. Sheesh – I keep forgetting to check in on you!

Got something to say?
