The dreaded post about blogging

I need to know.  Do you answer your comments, IN commen, or do you e-mail replies.  Always the same way?  Or do you answer some in comments and some in e-mail depending on the reply?

Do you prefer the same?  Or do you prefer differently than what you actually do on your own blog?

What do you think about the option to “subscribe to replies” on a post?

Is anybody actively using CoComments?  Thoughts on it?

What is the migratory path of a Swallow?

Sometimes I comment to comments in my comments.

Sometimes I email, depending on the comment. And other times, I can’t email, since they don’t leave an email.

    Wow, I’m confusing AND redundant.

But then of course African swallows are non-migratory.

    XOXO!

The only time I email a blogger in response to a post (other than when it’s a blogger that’s also a personal friend, of which I have a couple) is if I want to say or ask something that’s not for public consumption or involves material that can’t be fully backed up. Otherwise I think it defeats the purpose of having comments and encouraging discussion.

I use “subscribe to comment” occasionally, if the discussion is particularly interesting.

I’ve never heard of CoComments. I use Haloscan and have been quite happy with it.

Okay, I email AND leave a comment on commentor’s blog, as well - because I have NO life ;o) Seriously, if a reader is kind enough to spare the time visiting and leaving a comment, it’s bad form not to, you know, respond, either way. Dammit!

Oh, and I have also subscribed to comments on a post that really resonates with me - and because I’m nosey about what other people have to say.

And then, sometimes, I leave three comments - on the same post - because, I have this terrible habit of remembering things, after the fact.

    THE END

When I can I email responses to comments left on my blog. The ability to do that was what prompted me to move to WordPress in the first place.
People can do what they want with their blog and comments so it doesn’t really matter to me if they do the same as I do or not.
Subscribe to replies? Eh, I don’t see much need for it but it’s nice the option is there for people who want to use it.
CoComments? Haven’t heard of it so no clue what to tell you there.
Swallows eh? Isn’t that line from Monty Python? lol

I comment in my comments section when I think I have something interesting to say (since I’ve already blathered on about said subject in the post) so sometimes I don’t want it to seem like I am answering each individual comment because well, I don’t know..just not my style - but I read each and every one and comments totally give me a high so it’s not that I don’t appreciate my readers - I just don’t feel like I have any mesmerizingly brilliant to say -
I used to use CoComment but it drove me nuts - I have to find a good ’subscribe to comments’ plugin though

I do some of both. When I have an email address to reply to, I sometimes
reply by email. When I don’t have an email address, I sometimes comment
on the comments. I use blogger, which unfortunately doesn’t give me email
addresses except for other blogger users. If I had the email addresses,
I’d probably respond more. I’ve thought about changing, but I like most
of the other things about blogger right now.

Sometimes I don’t reply at all, but that’s when it seems to me that a
comment doesn’t really need a response.

I like getting an email in response to a comment, but I don’t expect it
all the time. I’ve never subscribed to comments, but there are some posts
where I’d like to go back and see other comments.

I don’t know the full migratory path, but I do know that it ends up in
    Capistrano this week.

It’s something I need to improve, but, I reply by e-mail.

    African or European swallow?

Oh, while I always enjoy getting a reply, I don’t expect them. Either method is fine, though.

I generally reply to comments within comments - sometimes, depending on the subject and nature of my response (something that I don’t want the public to know, but will tell someone I trust), I will respond via email. There’s not any real rhyme or reason to it, though.

As for responding to my comments, I don’t really have a preference, though if they don’t have a “subscribe to comments” section, it helps to let me know that they’ve responded via email. Mostly, I check back anyway if it’s a site I frequent regularly.

I do like the option of subscribing to comments so I know I’m not wasting my time checking to see if someone responded to my comment.

    I don’t use CoComments, so I don’t know.

And, finally - African or European?

  12. Doug McCaughan on March 25th, 2007 11:23 am

I try to answer comments when appropriate.

Now, from a business perspective, to maximum attention to your blog, I would think replying in both comment and email would be advisable. I know I frequently comment somewhere then disappear and never return to see the replies. Site’s like LissaKay’s and Krystal’s draw me back in specifically because they reply (or the thread replies) in email.

I tend to answer in comment only. Partially because I am lazy. Partially because I offer the “subscribe to comments” option on my posts. I figure that the people who want replies in email will have checked that box.

My preference is mixed. I really enjoy seeing an alert come through on a reply to a thread I commented on but I am also so inundated with email that I like to try to minimize the amount of email I receive. I do enjoy when a personalized email is sent from a blog author.

Naturally, I love the “subscribe to replies” option.

I have been signed up for CoComments for awhile but never used it. I guess I’ll have to explore the WordPress plugin.

    And yes, African or European?

Got something to say?
