Friday Focaccia

kimp.jpg I have to admit, I am quite happy that Kim Possible was saved from the trash heap for another season. Season Four starts this weekend with a 2 hour (4 episode) mini-thon. So tune in (or set your Tivo) for 4 new episodes of KP Saturday Night at 8 PM Eastern (7 PM Central). Yeah so I have no life. Your Point?

I was having a particularly rough day on Thursday, and at one point I thought to myself, there is just no way this day could get any worse. Then I caught this article that said, Anna Nicole Smith collapses, dies at 39 and I decided that my day wasn’t so bad after all.

This country needs an enema – OK, I know some people have a serious issue with needing to “belong” but when you go to a club and pick a fight with somebody because they rejected your MySpace friend request, then you may need to rethink your priorities. I’m just sayin’.

Of course, dumb things just abound in the world this week, as a kid that stole a Microsoft XBox 360 from somebodies home, apparently called Microsoft to complain because since the actual owner had already registered the games on-line, the thief was unable to get on-line to play them.

Unfortunately, stupidity can also be deadly. As in the case of what I can only describe as… no I can’t even describe this monster that left his daughter, a toddler outside to freeze to death, after rendering her unconscious because the girl would not go back to bed. Not that you can make something this horrible any worse, but while investigating this crime, they also discovered that he has molested another child. Whatever they ultimately do with him… It won’t be enough to satisfy me.

And unfortunately stupidity also does not actually have to remain in the realm of the actual evil-doer. Tell me, how would you feel if first you find out that a 12 year old in the school had sexually assaulted a first grader. Then tell me how you would feel if you found out that the school covered it up. Then finally how you would feel, after the school sought a dismissal of the case because according to their lawyers school officials cannot be held responsible under the Constitution simply for failing to protect youngsters from assaults by other students.

And finally for this week, it seems that the people at Mars Candy don’t know when to just shut up. But even in their pulling the homophobic ad campaign, they showed no understanding of why it was wrong.  Look at this statement:

Masterfoods spokeswoman Alice Nathanson issued a statement in which she said the company would stop running the ad on television and the Web site.

“As with all of our Snickers advertising, our goal was to capture the attention of our core Snickers consumer,” Nathanson wrote.

So, apparently according to their spokesperson, the core audience for Snickers candy, are homophobes that would rather die than be gay.  Real nice message.

All I can say to all of that is, “Wow.” Life is stranger than fiction.

  2. Biscuit says:

Wow is exactly what I was coming here to say. I didn’t see the commercial. I’m stunned that something like that would make it to tv. I can see one idiot thinking up this ad campaign, but what I can’t see is a bunch of other people going “YEH! That’s a GREAT idea!” Unbelievable.

Ah, so many reasons that I hate people. Writing to you from my own private desert island.
